NJ Teams Funded Through Check `Em Out Program

Programs

The Megan Nicole Kanka Foundation has worked over the years to develop programs that provide awareness and education to families throughout New Jersey. The Foundation's CHECK' EM OUT Program was launched in April of 2001 and the Foundation's WHO IS WATCHING OUR CHILDREN? program has been educating parents since 1997.

CHECK 'EM OUT

  • DO YOU HAVE CHILDREN PARTICIPATING IN RECREATIONAL SPORTS IN NEW JERSEY?
  • DOES THE SPORTS ORGANIZATION DO BACKGROUND CHECKS ON THEIR COACHES/MANAGERS?
  • NEW JERSEY LAW ALLOWS IT.
  • AS A PARENT, YOU SHOULD REQUIRE IT .
  • THE MEGAN NICOLE KANKA FOUNDATION MAY HELP YOU PAY FOR IT.
Newspaper articles and televised news programs have aired stories of coaches and managers who have been arrested for molesting children, under their care. The reaction from parents and the community at large has always been shock and disbelief. Unfortunately, one or many children have been molested before anyone finds out.

CHECK 'EM OUT can help deter pedophiles from volunteering their time in the sports arena and our foundation would like to help you pay for fingerprint checks on both the state and federal levels.

Who is watching your children?
Maybe its time to find out!

WHO IS WATCHING OUR CHILDREN?

There are different ways that children are watched in today's society. Most of the time, they are watched by people who are concerned for their safety and well being. But sometimes they are watched for other more sinister reasons. This program was developed for parents by the foundation to provide a greater awareness to the problem of child sexual abuse. By educating parents about the dangers of child sexual abuse and making them look at the way they approach this problem, we can help prevent the victimization of children. Below are the areas that our program covers:

  • What is a Pedophile?
  • What are the different kinds of Pedophiles?
  • What are some of the mixed signals parents inadvertently give their children?
  • Why is it important to constantly reinforce safety information to our children?
  • How do we educate without creating fear in children?
  • Is the danger "Stranger Danger" or "Familiar Danger?"
  • Why is it important to open the lines of communication with our kids?
  • How important is it to be aware of who is around you?
  • How important is it to teach children that "Nice people can do bad things?"
  • How can a community based program help keep kids safe.
  • Provide resource material and program information.
  • Provide a display of children's books that are available through local book stores that deal with the topic of child sexual abuse.
